Cycle Cross

Cyclocross (CX) is a high-energy cycling discipline that blends elements of road racing, mountain biking, and obstacle racing. Held in the cooler months, cyclocross races feature short, intense laps (usually 2-3 km) on mixed-terrain courses that include grass, mud, gravel, and sand. Obstacles like barriers and steep climbs often force riders to dismount and carry their bikes, adding a unique physical challenge.

Cyclocross Bikes and Gear

Cyclocross bikes are specially designed for rugged courses:

  • Geometry: High bottom brackets and shorter wheelbases for maneuverability.

  • Tires: Wider, treaded tires for grip on loose or muddy surfaces.

  • Brakes: Disc brakes to handle wet and muddy conditions.

Other essentials include grippy shoes with cleats, gloves for control, and layered clothing for variable weather.

Key Skills
  • Dismounting and Remounting: Seamlessly navigate barriers by quickly hopping on and off the bike.

  • Cornering on Loose Surfaces: Master tight, muddy turns to maintain speed.

  • Terrain Adaptation: Adjust constantly to different surfaces with balance and control.

Why Cyclocross?

Cyclocross is beloved for its community spirit, high-energy atmosphere, and accessibility for riders and spectators alike. With short laps in accessible venues, CX events are exciting, fast-paced, and spectator-friendly, making it an ideal sport for all cycling enthusiasts to experience up close.
